Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union may relocate

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union (SFCU) is eyeing a move to a new location on Route 9. Officials with SFCU went before the Shrewsbury Planning Board at its monthly meeting Dec. 2 to give the board an overview of their plans to purchase a parcel of land at 489 Boston Turnpike, which is on the corner of Lake Street and across from a bookstore.

Plans call for construction of a building that will include a 5,807-square-foot space for the credit union, as well as an additional 2,867-square-foot retail building. The plan includes 59 parking spaces at the site.

The Planning Board will consider the new building again at its next meeting Thursday, Jan. 6, after reviewing the traffic implications of the proposal.

Earlier this month, members of the Shrewsbury Library Building Committee went before the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen with plans for a library expansion that includes using land currently owned by Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union on Main Street. Town officials are in negotiations with the credit union about a possible sale.
