Hudson – Maria J. (Figueiredo) Monteiro, 80, of Hudson, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joao C. Monteiro of Hudson.
Maria was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, daughter of the late Jose A. and Maria (Tavares) Figueiredo. She resided in Portugal until moving to Hudson in 1966. She was employed at the Hudson Lock, Co. for 30-plus years until her retirement. She was a member of Saint Michael's Parish in Hudson.
Maria was very proud of her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her tremendous joy and they will remember her for her love and devotion. She enjoyed spending her summer months at her house in Santa Maria. She also enjoyed cooking and hosting all family events.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Joe Monteiro and his wife Rosa of Fairhaven, Tony Monteiro and his wife Fatima of Hudson, Maria Chaves and her husband Victor of Marlborough, Olga Cabral and her husband Joao of Hudson and Elia Braga and her husband Fernando of Hudson. She was the mother of the late Denis Monteiro. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Andrade, Suzette Cunha, Mark Loura, Scotty Monteiro, Michael Monteiro, Derek Loura, Tina Braga, Denis Cabral, Jeff Braga, Lindsay Monteiro, Tanya Braga, Krystal Monteiro, and Sean Cabral; 10 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Deolinda Monteiro, Laurinda Reis, Peter Figueiredo, all of Canada; and her very large extended family. She was the sister of the late Agostinho, Antonio and Jose Figueiredo.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 24 in Saint Michael's Church of Hudson, with burial in Saint Michael's Cemetery, Hudson. The Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of Hudson assisted with arrangements.
