Applefest 2018 LogoNorthborough – When most people were in hibernation mode this winter, the Northborough Applefest Committee was busy with plans for the 2018 annual fall festival. This year’s event will take place Thursday, Sept. 13, through Sunday, Sept. 16.

Applefest Committee Chair Michelle Gillespie said that the nomination period for the parade’s grand marshal is open now through June 30. Northborough residents may submit their nomination to the Applefest Committee at Applefest, Inc, PO Box 216, Northborough, MA 01532 or via email at [email protected]. The nominee must be a Northborough resident who has demonstrated consistent efforts of volunteering and who has positively affected the community by giving back. All nominations must include the nominee’s name, your name and address, and how your nominee represents the spirit of the grandmarshal.

The festival weekend will include the traditional events including the gala, parade, street vendor fair, Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce 5K road race, Apple Pie Cafe, American Legion BBQ, fireworks, Northborough Library book sale, classic car show and Taste of Northborough. Returning will be the Town Common Farmer’s Market and the Northborough Trails Committee hike.

The Northborough Rotary Club will be looking for a variety of vendors for its street fair. Questions or interest can also be emailed to the Applefest Committee.

“The committee is finalizing the schedule of events and will be confirmed soon,” said Gillespie. “For now, save the dates.”

Applefest is a volunteer-run event, relying on donations from residents and local businesses. Event banners, which are placed along route 20/Main Street for the months surrounding the festival, can be sponsored by businesses. Donations can be made via email or through the online link at www.northboroughapplefest.com.

In addition to the Applefest website, updated information on all the upcoming events can be viewed by following their Twitter or Facebook page.
