Westborough police arrest two for donation box theft

Westborough – Police Chief Alan Gordon released this statement this morning:

On 10/17/12, at approximately 7:50 PM, Det. Steven Tompkins observed a mini van parked beside the St. Vincent de Paul clothing donation box located at 53 E. Main St.

He observed this vehicle fully loaded with trash bags filled with clothing. A male subject was standing outside the vehicle. He was identified as Amaro B. Varela, age 36 of 18 Farrington St. Brockton. Amaro was found on 9/25/12 and 10/30/11 at the same location removing donated clothing from this box.

Another male subject, Eliseu Afonso, age 32 of 91 Harvard St. Brockton was located inside the bin. He was handing the donated items through the openings on the side of the box. He was also found at this same location on 9/25/12.

Both suspects were placed under arrest for larceny over $250. They were both held on $500 cash bail for their appearance in WDC this morning.
