Carol S. Kirby, 67

42

Carol S. Kirby, 67Marlborough – Carol S. (Slattery) Kirby, 67, a lifelong Marlborough resident, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 after living with lung cancer for the past year.

Born and raised in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Deputy Fire Chief F. Raymond Slattery and Clarice Louise (Daoust) Slattery, and the wife of the late William R. Kirby, Sgt. MPD, who died in 2002.

Following her graduation from St. Anne's Academy in 1963, she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where she served as an administration specialist and was named Miss Lackland Air Force Base.

Until she became ill in October 2011, she had been employed as a bartender at the Moose Lodge in Marlborough, where she is being remembered for her dry sense of humor, her unfailing wit, her unusual perspective on life and especially her “Unique Friday Rituals.” She had formerly been employed at Marlborough High School in the cafeteria.

She loved to cook, garden, and lighthouses; never missed her soaps; and never wanted to be a bother to anyone.

She is survived by her son, William R. Kirby Jr. of Marlborough; her brother, Alan P. Slattery and his wife Regina of Marlborough; her sister, Sandra DeLong of Marlborough; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 26, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Matthias Church, 400 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery on Beach Street in Marlborough. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.

Donations may be made to Moose Charities, 155 North International Dr., Mooseheart, IL 60539.
