Marlborough Fire Dept. fights weekend blazes

Marlborough – The Marlborough Fire Department released this statement this morning:

Marlborough Firefighters were kept busy on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3, with two structure fires.

On Friday at 5:21 p.m. ?a structure fire was at 698 Pleasant Street. Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Tower 1, Rescue 1 and? ?Car 2 responded. Engine 2, the first due Engine Company, arrived and reported heavy smoke from the eaves of the home. There was no access to the basement area; firefighter had to gain entry to the fire area to attack the fire via the cellar stairs. The fire was in the basement area of the home.? The fire was quickly extinguished and the area was checked for any possible extension to other parts of the house.? The last Marlborough Fire Department unit cleared the scene at 6:13 p.m.

On Saturday, November 3, a structure fire was reported at 9:20 in the morning at 468 Elm Street. Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Tower 1, Rescue 1, and Car 2 responded to the fire. Engine 2 was the first company on scene and reported that the fire was in a utility room. The fire was quickly extinguished and the area was checked for any possible extension to other parts of the house. Marlborough Fire Department units cleared the scene at 11:06 a.m.

There were no injuries reported at either incident.

The causes of both fires are undetermined at this time and are under investigation by the Marlborough Fire Department's Fire Investigation Unit.
