Hudson – Harmony, Inc., an international and educational organization for women barbershop singers, held its International Chorus Contest Nov. 17 in Orlando, Fla., at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista Hotel. Women of Note, from Hudson, was one of 24 choruses from the U.S. and Canada who qualified to compete after coming in 4th place at their area contest in Montreal, Quebec back in April.

The chorus sang 15th in the contest and ended up coming in 7th place overall, just missing 6th place by one point and 5th place by 12 points. Some members were also able to vacation at the Walt Disney World parks for the week, and Harmony, Inc. even sponsored a photo opportunity with Mickey Mouse after the chorus contest.

Angela Dolber, their President, said she is thrilled with their performance in the contest, and having three new members on the risers with them, as well.

“The chorus has been working hard at getting new members this year, now having 32 members in our chorus and being able to compete with 25 members in Orlando,” she said. “We have been increasing our singing, music, and presentation scores every contest since we hired Liane Iannuzzo, who was a novice director from Nashua, N.H., back in May 2007. Now we’re looking forward to doing some community holiday performances, and then in January, getting ready again for our Area contest in April, which we are hosting this year in Leominster.”

Women of Note is a non-profit woman's chorus who sings in four-part a cappella harmony Monday nights, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., at the Grace Baptist Church, 353 River Rd. in Hudson. They rehearse on the second floor of the church, and their rehearsals are always open to the public. With a wide variety of ages from 13 to 78, their members come from central to eastern Massachusetts into southern New Haven.

The chorus also does performances in the community throughout the year, so if you’re interested in bringing some musical entertainment to your organization's event, business meeting, or activity group, contact Jean James, the Chorus Manager, at 978-273-2418 for more information.
