Library presents Fourth Annual Foreign Film FestivalThe Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library will be presenting its Fourth Annual Foreign Film Festival every Sunday during the month of February at 2 p.m.

The following movies will be presented:

February 3: “The Star Maker”? ?Italian – 1995 – 113 min – R.

A conniving but likable scam artist poses as a talent scout and sells screen tests to Sicily locals who dream of escaping their rural lives and becoming stars. Charming and comical, this endearing tale takes place after the end of World War II.? Italian with English subtitles.

February 10: “Temptress Moon” – Chinese – 1997 – 127 min – R

A young man's obsession with his cousin, the daughter of a wealthy, decaying family, provides the basis for this period drama that opens on the eve of the 1911 Revolution when Imperial China became a Republic. Ruyi is the scion of the wealthy Pang clan, and Zhongliang is her cousin. As a teenager, Zhongliang flees to Beijing and later to Shanghai where he becomes a smooth-talking gigolo.? At his boss’ urging. Zhongliang returns to his cousin's home to seduce Ruyi out of her inheritance.? Chinese with English subtitles.

February 17: “Twin Sisters” – Dutch – 2002 – 135 min – R

In 1920's Germany, twin six-year-old sisters watch the burial of their parents and are then split up and sent off to live with different family members – one to an upper middle class aunt in Holland, the other to a German uncle's farm. This story follows the dramatically different paths the two girls take and World War II's impact each of them.? Dutch with English subtitles.

February 24: “Caramel” – Lebanese ?2008 – 95 min – PG

This film follows the lives and loves of five women whose paths criss-cross in Beirut. They work and play in and around a beauty parlor where their issues include an affair, an engagement, and dalliances with the customers in this sweet comedy.? Arabic and French with English subtitles.
