To the editor:

Letter to the editor: Shrewsbury superintendent offers thanksOn behalf of everyone in the Shrewsbury Public Schools, I want to thank the entire Shrewsbury community for supporting the building of the new Sherwood Middle School.? I am pleased to report that the school opened on January 23, seven months ahead of schedule, and that the project is currently projected to be more than $6 million under budget.

It is difficult to express just how big of an improvement the new Sherwood Middle School provides for the education of our town's almost 1,000 fifth and sixth graders. The architecture and construction of the building are of the highest quality, and its innovative design ensures that all spaces are structured to foster an effective, flexible learning environment that will support students” instructional needs both today and in the future.

I would like to thank everyone whose support, skill, and hard work contributed to this outstanding project, including the School Committee, Board of Selectmen, and Finance Committee; the Community Supporters for Sherwood; the Sherwood Building Committee; the Town Manager's Office; the Public Buildings Department; the Sherwood Middle School administration and staff; the School Department administration and staff; Lamoureux Pagano Associates, architects; PMA Consultants, owner's project manager; Gilbane Building Company, construction manager, and all of its subcontractors; Blue Line Design, furniture and equipment consultant; and the Massachusetts State Building Authority.

This was a first class, fiscally responsible project that will provide great value to the community for decades to come.? Our students, educators, and parents are extremely grateful.? Thank you, Shrewsbury!

Respectfully,

Joseph M. Sawyer, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
