Richard J. Snyder, 79Hudson – Richard J. “Dick” Snyder, 79, of Hudson, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at Oakdale Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia (Perry) Snyder of Hudson.

Dick was born and raised in Marlborough, where he attended local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Marlboro High School. He had been a longtime resident of Hudson.

He spent a few years employed by the Polaroid Corp. prior to spending many years as an auditor for the National Fraternal Order of Eagles until his retirement in 2006.

Dick was a proud member of the Eagles, both in Hudson and Marlborough. He spent many years serving his community through the Eagles, and was voted by his peers as the Massachusetts Fraternal Order of Eagles Member of the Year. Dick was also well known nationally for his contributions to the Eagles, and was nominated and elected into the Fraternal Order of Eagles National Hall of Fame.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathleen Brown and her husband George of Sterling, Brenda Legris and her husband Mark of Palm Springs, CA, and Jeff Snyder and his fiancé Lynn Cormier of Hudson. He is also survived by his eight loving grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sister in-law, Marie Hahn and her husband Raymond; and his nephew, Chip Hahn, all of Kittery, ME. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Snyder, in 1974, and his brother, Paul Snyder, and was the son of the late Mary Crain.

A funeral service and celebration of Dick's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours Friday, Feb. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dick may be made to the Robert W. Hansen Diabetes Fund, F.O.E., c/o Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Aerie, 1623 Gate Way Cir., Grove City, OH 43123.
