Shrewsbury ?For the last three years, Jonathan Green, a senior at St. John's High School, has made an impressive showing as a year-round runner. On Feb. 23, he defeated the field with a personal best of 9:21.48 to win the two-mile event at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association) Auerbach All State Meet. This was the second year in a row that Green won this event.
Recently, Green received another prestigious honor ?the Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, announced he is the 2012-13 Gatorade Massachusetts Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the race course, distinguishes Green as Massachusetts” best high school boys cross country runner, the company said in a press release.
Green also won his second straight Division I individual cross country state championship last fall with a time of 15:29.6. A three-time First Team All-State selection, Green earned second place at the Foot Locker Northeast Regional championships. He went on to finish 22nd at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in 15:45.
Green has verbally committed to an athletic scholarship at Georgetown University in the fall of 2013.
