MarlboroughTownHall USE THIS ONEMarlborough – Marlborough's Downtown Village Association (MDVA) is looking for a creative individual or group to create, produce and manage a one-day, four- to eight-hour, family-friendly cultural event that will take place in the downtown district on Sunday, Sept. 1. The MDVA is seeking to build, members said, “on established tradition by creating a new annual event for Labor Day weekend to complement the Labor Day parade and the popular three-day Grecian Festival.”

Working with the MDVA, producers will be responsible for the following: developing a theme, lining up talent and/or vendors, creating activities, submitting a budget, planning and managing the event, and promoting the event. The MDVA will provide a limited budget, determined by the needs of the event and marketing support. Offerings may include such things as street performers, street artists, music, a kids” zone, sand art, sidewalk chalk, historical attractions, vendors, a scavenger hunt and other forms of entertainment or a theme suggested by the producer.

“The purpose of the event is to provide a family-oriented activity that will expose and promote our focus on the Cultural District Designation by bringing in aspects of art, music and or local history,” MDVA Chair Mary Scott said.

The MDVA is working with the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation, she added, to develop this event and others to increase the visibility of the city's strong local artists population; to increase economic activity for participating vendors and the area in general; and to cultivate the downtown's artistic, diverse and unique ambiance.

“Marlborough Downtown Village is committed to finding opportunities for local residents and business people to revitalize the central part of Marlborough,” Scott said.

A non-required informational meeting to answer questions will be held Tuesday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m. at the Main Street Café, 182 Main St., Marlborough.

For applications or more information, contact Scott at (508) 485-7664 or at [email protected]. The application deadline is Tuesday, April 30.
