Shrewsbury – Each day, 5,020 Americans are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). ?Now, Rosanne Ryder and Christine Emmi, Shrewsbury-based certified health coaches, are working to bring a message of hope and reversal to those living with high blood sugar and its accompanying health problems.

Ryder and Emmi have recently become local providers for Diabetes Free Zone?, a physician-created lifestyle modification program that helps individuals with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes reverse high blood sugar, reduce their BMI and regain their health.

“Type 2 diabetes is a behavior epidemic,” according to the women. “The solution is not in pills or injections, but in changing destructive behavior on a personal level through lifestyle changes.”

The Diabetes Free Zone is a new and innovative 16-week program based on the Diabetes Prevention Program. The program is more than general information on healthy eating or a loose collection of healthy eating tips, the women said. Rather, it is a structured wellness system based on select, but key, principles. When brought together, these provide the foundation to produce sustainable change in an individual's eating habits and lifestyle choices.

“Although the mechanics of reversing high blood sugar through lifestyle modification have been well documented, the medical community is not currently structured to provide the necessary systematic approach to accomplish maximum and long lasting results,” the women explained. “That is why The Diabetes Free Zone was developed. A structured system was needed to help individuals take personal control of their high blood sugar and their health.”

According to the American Diabetes Association, there are currently 33 million people with diabetes and 57 million pre-diabetics in the United States. In the past, the therapy options for these individuals would have been mostly confined to conventional therapy using medications that keep them locked into the disease. Now patients have the option to reverse their high blood sugar and regain their health.

Diabetes Free America? is the parent company of the Diabetes Free Zone? system.
