Northborough girl scouts donate to food pantry

Northborough – ?While selling their Girl Scout cookies in the community, Junior Troop #31255 decided to give back to their local community as well. Collecting orders from friends and family, they also chose to add a tip jar while selling their cookies in front of grocery stores. As many people purchased cookies, others made donations of $1, $2 or even more. The proceeds started to add up so the girls decided to ?purchase extra boxes of cookies and donate them to the Northborough Food Pantry. The Scouts raised over $200 from their tip jars and offered up 40 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to the pantry.

The Junior Troop of 10 10-year-old girls sold over 1,270 boxes of cookies this year. The Girl Scouts are not new to supporting the Food Pantry, as they participate in the Scouting for Food event every fall.

“Cookie Mom,” Tina Lee, noted she was very proud of the troop and their accomplishments.

A typical donation to the Food Pantry is usually a canned good, some mac and cheese or a jar of peanut butter. The Girl Scout cookies will add a special variety to the pantry choices – a welcome addition to the day-to-day pantry supply. The troop plans to continue this tradition and work with the Northborough Food Pantry on additional projects throughout the year.

In kind and monetary donations are accepted at the Food Pantry on a regular basis. For more information about donations, see the website at www.nfpantry.org and click on donate, or visit the Facebook Page at facebook.com/nfpantry.
