Joseph D. Haley Jr., 72

Hudson – Joseph D. Haley Jr., 72 of Hudson, died on Friday, April 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family after losing his battle with cancer.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Joseph D. Haley and Gertrude E. (Gately) Haley. He moved to Hudson in 1952, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a member of the Hudson High School, class of 1959. He was employed by the former Washington Street Motors, R.S. Lamson and Sons, and the former Bar Lunch of Hudson.

He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Marcia K. (Mealey) Haley; his son, Joseph D. Haley III; his daughter, Shanna Haley; his grandson, Christopher J. Haley, who was the love of his life and was affectionately referred to by Chris as “Bumpa”; and his two step-granddaughters, Lauren and Becca. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas J. Haley, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Sarah A. Haley in 1989.

Joe was an avid history buff, specifically with anything pertaining to World War II. He was a diehard Boston sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots. His favorite pastime and greatest joy was spending time with his grandson Chris. For the past seven years, Joe had nearly perfect attendance at every hockey, baseball and lacrosse game for Chris as well as attending many practices. We will miss his quick wit, sense of humor and kind heart.

Family and friends may attend calling hours Wednesday, April 17, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Services and burial in Saint Michael's Cemetery of Hudson will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something kind for a friend or help someone in need. After all, that is how Joe lived his life. Finally, Joe would like to extend a very heartfelt thank-you to the following for all they did: Tommy, David, Ricky, Ray, Cork, Alfie, Carol, Grace, Julie, and Digger.
