Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4North Eastham – Joseph H. Rego Sr., 88, of North Eastham, former longtime resident of Hudson, died Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the McCarthy Hospice Care Center in Sandwich. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia “Pat” (Slaman) Rego of North Eastham, and was predeceased by his first wife, Constance (Sullivan) Rego.

Joseph was born and raised in Hudson, son of the late Joseph and Amelia (Garcia) Rego. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Hudson High School. He later attended William & Mary College where he received several degrees. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a former teacher at Hudson High School, and also spent time as the high school Athletic Director. He spent many years as the Director of Public Works in Hudson and was a longtime civil and land engineer.

Joseph served on the Hudson School Committee and Hudson Planning Board, and spent time as the Hudson Town Manager. He was a life member of the Orleans-Eastham Lodge of Elks, and a member of the American Legion in Hudson, the Bonita Springs, FL Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Moose Lodge of Marlborough.

Besides spending most of his life serving the Hudson community, Joseph always felt fortunate to spend the winter months in Bonita Springs, FL with his wife Pat. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially at his fishing camp in Maine, where his sons, grandsons, and great-grandson often joined him. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all of them.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his four children, Katherine Davis and her husband Stephen of Hudson, Joseph H. Rego Jr. and his wife Denise of Brewster, Michael J. Rego and his wife Maryann of Hudson, and Richard J. Rego of Island Pond, VT, and his step-children, Anthony Donovan of New Hampshire, Richard Bigley and his wife Theresa of Hudson, Paula Redden of South Berwick, ME, and Robert J. Redden and his wife Michelle of Northborough. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Cahill, and his step-son, Frank Donovan.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 24, at 10:00 a.m., in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 23, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joseph, may be made to the Eastham Fireman's Association, 2520 State Highway, Eastham, MA 02642.
