Obit Roland G. GaumondShrewsbury – Roland G. Gaumond, 86, of Shrewsbury, died peacefully following a long dementia-related decline Friday, May 3, 2013 with his family by his side.

He was born June 7, 1926 in Worcester to George and Albertine (Bibeau) Gaumond, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his infant daughter, Beverly. He proudly served his country in WW II, where he saw combat in Germany. He was also a part of the Occupation Forces and was a radio operator. He returned to marry the love of his life, Jeanne, and begin his precious family life. He moved to Shrewsbury in 1953 where he became a communicant of St. Anne's Church.

A machine operator and proficient woodworker, he taught himself, then his family, many related valuable skills. He retired from State Mutual Life Assurance Co., where he was the building services supervisor.

He loved to make people laugh with his expressive face, dry humor, and snappy one-liners.

Roland leaves his love and his world, Jeanne (Lemay) Gaumond, after 63 years of marriage; his four children and their spouses, daughter Janette (Gaumond) Slaughter and Kenneth Slaughter of Grafton, daughter Diana Gaumond and John Lamb of Brewster, daughter Rochelle Gaumond and Cheryl Miner of Belchertown, and son Ken Gaumond and Carol Gaumond of Auburn. “Pépère” also leaves nine grandchildren, Andrew, Joel and Steven Magnusson; Juliet, Anneka and Susanne Lamb; and Justine, Rayanna and Olivia Gaumond; his sisters, Lucille Allain and her husband Jean of Worcester and Doris Ducharme, widow of Ronald Ducharme, of Millbury; as well as many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours will be held Monday, May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., ?in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 7 from the funeral home, with a Mass at 1 p.m. in St. Anne's Church, 130 Turnpike Rd., Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
