Melican bands win gold at Jazz Festival

Northborough – Two bands from the Melican Middle School performed ?May 16 at the Central District Junior Jazz Festival held at the Trottier Middle School in Southborough. The festival was ?sponsored by the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education.

The Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Brent Ferguson, earned a gold medal, the highest level award, for their performance.? The judges awarded special recognition for outstanding musicianship to Eli Becker (trumpet), Kelly Slovin (alto sax) and Bella Montouri (bass).

The Stage Band, directed by David Daquil, also earned a gold medal. ??The judges awarded special recognition for outstanding musicianship to Zoe Foster (alto sax), Sam Forbush (trumpet) and Jason Goguen (drum set).?? The judges also recognized Steven Moffa for the Most Valuable Player in Division E.
