Annual Backpack Drive begins

backpackNorthborough- The Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc., and Northborough Moms and Tots are once again teaming up for the sixth annual Backpack Drive to benefit students in need in the Northborough public schools. Last year, a total of 135 backpacks were distributed to send students back to school in the fall with all the necessary supplies. Once again, businesses, community organizations, and individuals are invited to assist in making this year's drive another success.

According to organizers, there are several ways to help:

1. Make a monetary donation. Checks should be made payable to Northborough Helping Hands Assoc., Inc., and mailed to PO Box 383, Northborough, MA 01532. Be sure to make a note that the contribution is for the backpack drive.

2.?Donate store gift cards. These will be used toward the purchase of school supplies.

3.?Donate new school supplies.?There will be two local drop-off locations:? 69 Northgate Road (a plastic bin will be by?the back door on the deck) and 43 Ridge Road (bin will be on front porch). Items needed include large backpacks (17″ or larger in gender neutral colors), pencils, Crayola crayons, markers (fine and broad point in classic colors) and colored pencils, glue sticks, pens, pencil sharpeners with barrels, pocket folders, one- and three-subject notebooks, insulated lunch bags, scissors, highlighters, rulers, 3×5 index cards, large erasers, loose-leaf lined paper, scientific calculators, one- and three-inch binders, 3×3 Post-it pads, and fine point black Sharpie markers.

All donations will be used 100 percent toward the effort. Northborough Helping Hands Assoc., Inc., is a recognized 501(c)(3) charity and monetary donations are tax-deductible to the extent provided by the law.
