Obit Lou BurkeNorthborough – Louis “Lou” Burke, 88, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, July 6, 2013, with his loving wife Mary and family by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary T. (Kirby) Burke; a son, David and his wife Judy of Florida; two daughters, Laurie Johnson of Southbridge and Debra Davidian and her husband David of Northborough; seven grandchildren, Todd and Trevor Burke, Kimberly Lambert, Ashley Johnson, David “DJ,”? Matthew, and Kevin Davidian; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers and a sister.

Lou was born and raised in Princeton and lived in Northborough for the past 43 years. He graduated from the former Princeton High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

He was employed as a service representative for Pitney Bowes Inc., retiring in 1984. In retirement, he volunteered by helping disabled veterans. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Parish.

Lou especially enjoyed his time at Davidian Bros. Farm assisting children and adults picking out the best Christmas tree. He loved fishing and fly tying and his vacations spent at Cape Cod with grandchildren trying to catch “the big one.” He was an avid sports fan, especially the Red Sox. He was a Master Instructor with the Aquatic Resource Education Programs for children and adults through the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. He enjoyed square dancing with many friends as a member of “The Happy Homesteaders.”

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. His funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St., Northborough. Burial with military honors will be in Howard Street Cemetery.
