The fruits of success

080213 rsWestborough – By most accounts, the Westborough Farmers” Market, open each Thursday throughout the summer, has been a hit. Under the directorship of the nonprofit organization Dismas House, it has allowed local vendors to sell things such as farm produce, baked goods, coffee and wine.

If there was a drawback however, it would be with the busy downtown location, particularly in regards to pedestrian safety.? Located on the grounds of the Congregational Church, the Farmers” Market is located smack in the middle of a congested section of West Main Street. In addition to the Town Hall, the Police Station, the library, and a variety of businesses including two funeral homes, the road is the primary connector to the west side of town, resulting in heavy traffic and on-street parking. The challenge now is for officials to find a way to let a popular market continue while ensuring the safety of local pedestrians.
