Northborough – The Massachusetts Senior Games Pickleball Tournament was held Aug. 24 and 25 at the Longfellow Club in Wayland.?Nine players from the Northboro Pickleball Players group entered, and they came home with several medals. Norm and Joanne Avey won a gold medal in the Mixed Doubles 60-69 categoryl; Norm also won bronze in Men's 60-69 Singles.? Kevin Neary and Harry Sauter took home silver medals in Men's Doubles 70-79, and Jim Biel and Mel Goss won Bronze in the same category. Around 50 senior athletes participated, with entrants from four different New England states and New York competing.
Pickleball is a racket sport similar to tennis, but played on a much smaller court using a paddle and plastic ball. The Northboro Pickleball Players play Wednesday and Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ellsworth-McAfee Park on Route 135 in Northborough, and indoors at the Town Office building.?If anyone would like to watch a game or participate, they are welcome to come to the park during the scheduled times.
