Some disapprove of the approval

090613Northborough – A decision by the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) to approve a special permit for a mixed-use development at 61 and 65 W. Main St. has ignited a war of words on social media between some ZBA and Planning Board officials as well as some residents.

On Aug. 27, the ZBA approved a variance for a special permit for a mixed-use development at 61 and 65 W. Main St. that will include 20 one-bedroom apartments. This, in spite of the fact that voters at the April Town Meeting passed a bylaw that limits the number of units that can be built in that area to eight.

Those opposing the 20 unit component of the project allege that the ZBA did not try to negotiate for fewer apartments and, as a result, did not represent the will of the voters.
