Obit Flag_USE THIS ONEHudson – Robert H. Ostertag, 90, a longtime resident of Hudson, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans” Hospital in Bedford. He was the beloved husband of 43 years to the late Barbara E. (Lasher) Ostertag, who died in 1985.

Robert was born and raised in Bolton, son of the late William and Clara (Zink) Ostertag. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the Worcester Boys Trade School. He enlisted in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of WWII, serving in Company L, 10th Infantry as a Squad Leader in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. He was a decorated soldier receiving the Purple Heart and Campaign Ribbon with four Service Stars and was honorably discharged in June 1945.

He was employed as a delivery driver by the Kane-Perkins Co. of Hudson for 25 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the First Federated Church in Hudson, the Riverside Gun Club in Hudson, and the Marlborough V.F.W. Post 638, and was a life member of the Hudson American Legion, Post 100.

He is survived by his children, Darrell Ostertag of Dalton, N.H.; Doris Mazza of Zephyrhills, Fla.; David Ostertag of Gardiner, Maine; Nancy Stoddard of Brookfield, Vt.; George Ostertag of Hudson; and William Ostertag of Harvard. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, his great-great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Katherine Ostertag, in 1976.

Family and friends are encouraged to attend a graveside service Monday, Oct 28, at 12 p.m., in Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson. There are no calling hours, and all are encouraged to go directly to Forestvale Cemetery on Monday. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of 01749.
