Lorraine Zabierek, 94

62

Marlborough – Lorraine (Klimonwicz), Zabierek, 94, of Marlborough, formerly of Belmont and Burlington, passed away at her home Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late Sigmund W. Zabierek, who passed away in 2012.

Mrs. Zabierek worked as a draftswoman at the Portsmouth, N.H. Naval Ship Yard during WWII, until she married her husband. After their marriage, Lorraine briefly worked in an ice cream parlor to “learn the business” before she and her husband opened their own ice cream parlor, The Glass House, in Watertown.

Lorraine and her husband retired at age 55 and spent winters in Boynton Beach, Fla. and the rest of the year in Belmont. In 1995, they moved to a condo in Burlington, where they were very active with the Senior Center.

She was the devoted mother of Laurie Macauda and her husband, Phil, of Southborough; the loved sister of Alice Monkiewicz of Arlington, and the late Charlotte Gird and Helen Labenski; and the? loving grandmother of Alisa Lipman of Southborough and Philip Macauda of Northborough and their spouses. “Grandma Lola” was a loving great-grandma to Olivia, Brady, and Ella. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

We will all miss her very much.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m., at The Chapel of the Good Shepard, 400 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Burlington Senior Center, 61 Center St., Burlington, MA 01803.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris Funeral Home of Southborough. To send words of condolence to the family, please visit www.morrisfuneralparlor.com.
