Elderly man okay after Shrewsbury car accident

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department released this statement this afternoon:

On February 4th, 2014 (Tuesday) at 10:05 A.M., Shrewsbury Police received a call that a motor vehicle was off the road on Holden Street, was in water and the condition of the occupants was unknown. Sections of Holden Street are on the edge of Lake Quinsigamond. Shrewsbury Police, Fire and U-Mass EMS were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival rescue personnel determined that the vehicle's only occupant was out of the motor vehicle and was not injured. The driver was Ralph F. Carpini Jr.,? Worcester, Ma.- 80 years old. The vehicle was a 2008 Chevrolet Impala color white. Rescue crews determined the vehicle did not enter the water and was only in the woods approximately 100 feet off Holden Street directly across from Worcester Sand & Gravel.

It appears the operator was traveling north on Holden Street in the vicinity of Sewell Street when he lost control of the vehicle and slid off the road into the woods. Lovey's Towing removed the vehicle from the woods and the vehicle appeared to have minor damage. Officer Daniel S.Wnek of the Shrewsbury Police is investigating the accident. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Shrewsbury Police.
