Obit Richard GoodellBoylston ? Richard D. Goodell, 66, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, May 12, 2014.

Born and raised in Worcester, he was the son of the late Robert and Dorothy (Wensley) Goodell. He graduated from the former Classical High School in Worcester. He proudly served his country in the Air Force in Vietnam during the war and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He leaves behind his beloved friend, Vickie Killeen; four siblings, Robert Goodell and his wife Mary of Holden, Jean Markwitz of Tustin, Ca., Roger Goodell and his wife Karin of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Judy Anderson and her husband Dave of Portsmouth, R.I.; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Joyce Bisco and Margery Keegan.

Rich was a self-employed Master Carpenter in Central Massachusetts for many years. He also worked at the Northborough Post Office for five years during the 1980s.

A life member of Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post?? #234 in Northborough, he was elected Legionnaire of The Year in 2010. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting in the Berkshires and ice fishing on Rocky Pond. He also worked on a camp in Barnard, Vt. and loved spending time there. He was an avid NASCAR fan.

Calling hours will be held Friday, May 23, from 4-6 p.m., followed by a brief service with military honors at 6 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. Deacon Richard Martino will officiate. At his request, Rich's remains will be scattered by family and friends in Rocky Pond.
