Shrewsbury – John M. Chaplin, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 in St. Vincent Hospital. He was 75.
He was born Oct. 9, 1938 in Worcester, the only child of the late John M. and Lillie (Nordstrom) Chaplin. Raised in Worcester, he graduated from North High School and earned his Associate degree from the former Worcester Junior College. On April 13, 1975, he married Barbara L. Brown and they lived many years in Worcester before moving to Shrewsbury in 1980.
John worked as a systems analyst for Health New England for many years and previously for New England Nuclear, now Dupont Corporation.
His passions including photography in which his photos were featured in Vermont Life Magazine and Downeast Magazine. He took great pride in having one of his photos purchased by Hallmark.
John's home away from home was time spent volunteering at the Shrewsbury Senior Center and also with Shrewsbury Public Access in the media center. He loved people and the love he gave he received in return. He had a terrific sense of humor and a radiant smile. He was a fantastic cook and also took such joy in fishing. He will be missed dearly by his wife, family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 39 years, Barbara, he leaves his in-laws, Missy Safer and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Safer of Dana Point, California and Dr. Steven Brown and his wife Patti of Olean, New York; his nephews and niece, Abram Brown of Hoboken, New Jersey, Devan Safer and his wife Emily of Long Beach, California, and Jane Braica and her husband David of Salem, New Hampshire; and a close family friend, Pat Scavone of Niantic, Connecticut.
Family and friends will honor and remember John's life by gathering Saturday, May 31 at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors – The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, where his funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
