Westborough, Hopkinton police arrest alleged serial rapist

Region – Westborough Police Chief Alan Gordon? released this statement last evening:

Westborough and Hopkinton Police arrested Marcelo Goncalve Mota, 35 – the so-called “Metrowest Serial Rapist” – today in Deltran, N.J. and have returned him to Massachusetts where he will face aggravated rape and other charges stemming from incidents in 2003.

Mota fled the state before being charged, but he was arrested on a rape charge in New Jersey in 2007. DNA evidence linked to him to the Massachusetts cases, and he was indicted by a Worcester County Grand Jury in 2008. He had been held on bail awaiting trial in New Jersey since his arrest. Mota was found not guilty in New Jersey, but was arrested by Westborough and Hopkinton Police before he could be released.

Mota was charged with home invasion, armed burglary and assault on an occupant, aggravated rape, A&B with a dangerous weapon and witness intimidation which occurred at the Windsor Ridge Apartments on Rte. 9 on August 5, 2003. He is also charged with armed assault and burglary, aggravated rape, A&B with a dangerous weapon and witness intimidation. These occurred on August 13, 2003 in the Walker Meadows complex off Park St.

He will be arraigned in Worcester Superior Court on Thursday.
