Obit Stanley Rudnick JrShrewsbury – Stanley J. Rudnick Jr., 76, of the Southgate Community in Shrewsbury, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, June 10, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia C. (Richardson) Rudnick; his children, Katherine Barrett and her husband Charles, Elizabeth Rudnick and her husband Dirk Niggemeyer, Jennifer Johnson and her husband Lance, Thomas Rudnick and his wife Carla Zeilmann, and Laura Knutson and her husband Steve; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Schermerhorn and her husband Craig; his sisters-in-law, Mary K. Richardson, Mary Helen Richardson, and Holly Raba and her husband John; his brother-in-law; William Richardson and his wife Kelly; and many nieces and nephews.

Stanley was born in Chicago, Illinois to Stanley J. Rudnick Sr. and Alyce C. (Mayer) Rudnick. He graduated from Proviso High School in 1955, from Northwestern University in 1960 with a BA in Electrical Engineering, and from the University of Illinois in 1961 with an MA in Physics.

He began working at Argonne National Laboratory in 1961, and while employed there earned an M BA in Business Administration from the University of Chicago in 1968. He was a member of IEEE.

He was the Director of the Electronics Division at Argonne for 11 years, Manager of Research Programs for four years, and Technical Adviser to the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. for 15 years until retirement in 2003.

Stanley enjoyed swimming, volleyball, attending concerts and opera, and singing with the St. Raphael Church choir in Naperville. He was handy at painting and repairing the house and keeping a beautiful yard with vegetable garden and flower gardens and patios. He was kind and helpful to everyone.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mr. Rudnick's family Sunday, June 15, from 3 – 5 p.m., in Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will take place Monday, June 16 from the funeral home, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury. All are welcome to join the Rudnick family for refreshments at 1 p.m. in the Southgate Community Lounge, 30 Julio Dr., Shrewsbury.
