Shrewsbury – Over 300 members of the extended Girard clan recently gathered for a family reunion held at the Scandinavian Athletic Club Park.
The late Adelia and Hormidas Girard, who were French Canadians, moved to Worcester in the early part of the 20th century. The Girards had 15 children, 12 of whom then had children of their own.
Five of the siblings are still alive: Doris McManus, 83; Gloria Lundy, 85; Therese ?Gusha, 89; ?Gertrude, 92; and Raymond, 94.
Christine (Lundy)Wilkinson is the daughter of Gloria, who is number 13 of the 15 siblings.
“There are 65 first cousins. Most still live in the Worcester area,” Wilkinson said.
She noted that her grandmother “always loved to have big parties.” The family reunion is held every five years.
“Each of the family branches wears a different color t-shirt to differentiate them,” she added. “We have the food catered, have a big pitch tournament and play things like tug of war. It's a great day.”
