Region – The National Weather Service has just issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of our area and it is likely to be extended to cover all this area.? The text is below – please note the last paragraph includes the potential for short lived tornadoes, much like the one that struck Worcester Sunday evening.? Please be aware of the severity of this threat.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR…

EAST CENTRAL HAMPSHIRE COUNTY IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS…

SOUTHEASTERN FRANKLIN COUNTY IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS…

WEST CENTRAL WORCESTER COUNTY IN CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS…

* UNTIL 230 PM EDT

* AT 127 PM EDT…DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM

CAPABLE OF PRODUCING QUARTER SIZE HAIL WITH WIND GUSTS UP TO 60

MPH. THIS STORM WAS LOCATED OVER AMHERST…AND WAS MOVING EAST AT

10 MPH.

* SOME LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE…

AMHERST…BELCHERTOWN…WARE…HARDWICK…SHUTESBURY…PELHAM…

PETERSHAM AND NEW SALEM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL. GO

INDOORS AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.? DRIVERS SHOULD PREPARE FOR LOW

VISIBILITY AND AVOID FLOODED ROADS.

WHILE NOT IMMEDIATELY LIKELY…SHORT LIVED TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE IN
