Obit Edward GannonShrewsbury – Edward E. Gannon, of Shrewsbury, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, surrounded by his family, at St. Vincent Hospital after a courageous struggle with multiple myeloma. He was 52.

Born Sept. 21, 1962 in Worcester, he was the son of Laurence and Patricia (Blackett) Gannon. He was a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, class of 1980, and earned a Bachelor’s degree at Framingham State.

A self-employed contractor, he was a gifted and skilled tradesman. He was happiest with a task at hand and a tool to utilize.

Edward was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends, and was often found in the company of his extended family. He cherished his nephew, Max, and niece, Megan, and was considered an uncle to the children of relatives and friends. He served as an example of hard work, helpfulness, and humor to those who knew him well.

Edward traveled the world, lived abroad, and enjoyed many global experiences, including in Australia, Europe, Hawaii, Hong Kong, Ireland, Las Vegas, Russia, Thailand, and Tokyo. He also loved his annual pilgrimages to New Orleans and Saratoga Springs.

In addition to his parents, Larry and Patty Gannon of Shrewsbury, he leaves his siblings, Patricia A. Gannon of Worcester, Martha J. Gannon and her boyfriend Harry Markarian of Shrewsbury, and Timothy L. Gannon and his girlfriend Sarah Sadowski of Holden; his nephew and niece, Max and Megan German; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends will honor and remember his life by gathering for calling hours Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 4-8 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors, the Sumner House, 5 Church Road, Shrewsbury Center. His funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 440 Main St., Shrewsbury. The Rev. Clifford Gerber will officiate. Burial will be private.
