Region – The River’s Edge Arts Alliance and River’s Edge Community Band has announced its first annual Young Artist Competition for students in 12th grade and younger who play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. The auditions will be held by appointment Saturday, Dec. 6 for a performance with the Community Band on Sunday, March 29, 2015. The winner will be chosen by a panel consisting of River’s Edge Community Band members, music educators and the River’s Edge Community Band Director.
The application guidelines are as follows: The student must be in grade 12 or younger at date of performance; reside in the town of Hudson, one of its surrounding towns -or- be a student or child of a River’s Edge Art’s Alliance member; present a letter of application signed by parent/guardian; present a letter of recommendation from private instructor or school band/orchestra director and submit a $25 fee with application. Applications must be received by Nov. 29, 2014. Audition time will be arranged upon receipt of application.
Musical guidelines are as follows: audition piece shall be that of intended performance; should be memorized at time of audition; should be one with existing band/wind ensemble accompaniment; and the applicant should provide his/her own accompanist.
The winner will perform with the River’s Edge Community Band Sunday, March 29, 2015. The first runner-up will be given the opportunity to perform in the lobby prior to the concert.
