Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Northborough – Carl W. Hays, 93, passed away Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare (University Campus). His wife, Evelyn (Taber) Hays, died in 1981.

He leaves his loving children, Barbara Ann Hays Amons of Sandwich, Bonnie Louvier and her husband Philip of Lexington, Va., Brian Hays and his wife Martha of Northborough, Brad Hays and his wife Laura of Blackstone, and Barri-Lynne Hays of Marlborough; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Poirier and Mildred Czyjka, both of Pittsburg, Penn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Pittsburg, he was the son of the late Carl and Anna (Stevich) Hays. An Army veteran of WWII, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Years ago, Carl worked as an engineer for LaPointe Machine Tool, formerly of Hudson. He later worked for Strathmore Machine Tool in Natick for more than 30 years until his retirement. He traveled internationally for both companies over the years.

His hobbies included woodworking, tin working, carpentry, and furniture making.

Carl lived for his family. During the 1960s, he served as Commander for Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post #234 in Northborough.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 16, at 1:30 p.m., at the Howard Street Cemetery (old section). There are no calling hours.
