Obit Robert R. KimballNorthborough – Attorney Robert R. Kimball passed away in his sleep Monday, Oct. 13, 2014 at Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, as a result of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). He was 68.

He leaves his devoted wife of 44 years, Nancy E. (Saylor) Kimball; his loving children, Beth A. Beringer and husband Jason of Danvers and Wendy J.K. Kurz and husband Jeffrey of Winchester; three beloved grandchildren, Ava and Alice Beringer and Caroline Kurz; two brothers, Jeffrey Kimball and wife Ann of Stratham, N.H. and James Kimball and wife Miriam of La Plata, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He had a special bond with cousins Daniel, Barry, and Joel Kimball, who all grew up together in Shrewsbury.

Born in Worcester, he was the son of Philip and A. Claire (Riopel) Kimball, and a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, class of 1963. There, he excelled in academics and was a co-captain of the football and basketball teams. He was the recipient of the Harvard Book Award and was inducted into the Shrewsbury High School Sports Hall of Fame.

Bob graduated from Amherst College, earning a B.A. degree in Political Science in 1967. He played football there and was a member of Phi Delta Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from Boston University School of Law in 1970.

He joined the law firm Fletcher Tilton PC in Worcester in 1970 and worked there for 43 fulfilling years until retirement last December.

Dedicated to the community in which he worked, Bob was also involved in local organizations, including serving as the past President and Director of the National Education for Assistance Dog Services, Inc., (NEADS); former chair of the Boroughs Committee of Management of the YMCA; and Director of the YMCA of Central MA; Past President and Director of Canines For Disabled Kids, Inc.; Trustee of the Episcopal Diocese of Western MA; Director of the Assabet Valley Mastersingers; member of the Northborough Housing Partnership; President of Northborough Affordable Housing Corp.; former chair and commissioner of the Northborough Housing Authority; and a member of the International Center of Worcester.

He was an active member of the Church of the Nativity in Northborough, serving as the Senior Warden and chairman of the Finance Committee.

Bob loved to play golf and was an avid New England sports fan. He was known for his witty family poems and children’s stories, and loved spending time on Cape Cod. He was devoted to his family, church, and community.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Oct. 17, from 4-8 p.m., at Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., Northborough. Bob’s funeral will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at 10 a.m., in the church, followed by burial in Howard Street Cemetery. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough is directing arrangements.
