Region: Try Hockey for Free Day in Westborough

37

Region – Starhawks Youth Hockey invites boys and girls ages 4 to 12 to Northstar Ice Sports Center in Westborough Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10:50 a.m. for a Try Hockey for Free clinic to experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment. Make sure to show up early to put on skates and equipment.

Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis as well as assistance in dressing the players. The Boston Bruins, Mass Hockey, the Mike Cheever Grow Hockey Development Grant and Starhawks Youth Hockey helped make the equipment available for this year’s hockey season.

If your player enjoys this first experience, Starhawks Youth Hockey will be offering its Learn to Play Hockey/House League for eight more Saturdays (same time and place) in November and December.

Try Hockey For Free Day is part of Come Play Hockey Month. This program, designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport, is a joint effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, and NHL member clubs. With Total Hockey and Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports, the official sponsors of Try Hockey For Free Day, USA Hockey has 500 locations offering kids between the ages of 4 and 12 years old this unique opportunity.

“We look forward to introducing new families to our sport,” said Mark Macaulay of Starhawks Youth Hockey. “To help keep costs reasonable for parents, we’ve developed our house league to provide first-year players with a cost-effective introduction to hockey.”
