Northborough – The Northborough annual Tree Lighting will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, starting at 5 p.m., at the corner of Blake Street and Route 20. This year’s celebration will feature the Hundredth Town Chorus singing holiday carols, holiday bells for the children to ring, hot cocoa and cookies (while supplies last), and local merchants.
The annual tree lighting began in 1968 in honor of the memory of Neil Ellsworth, an Army private first class, who was killed in Vietnam in 1967 at the age of 19.
This event will be the grand finale to The Northboro Holiday Trolley. The trolley rides up and down Main Street from 12-5 p.m., sponsored by local merchants and small businesses. A raffle will be held at the tree lighting for those patrons who participated in the trolley and had their trolley express ticket punched by retailers along the route.
The event is sponsored by the Northborough Community Affairs Committee, Dunkin’ Donuts and Wegmans. Northborough House of Pizza will be serving pizza.
