Marlborough – Due to the increase in electricity rates from National Grid, the city of Marlborough has announced the selection of Hampshire Power as the city’s supplier under a municipal aggregation for its Community Choice Power Supply Program. Mayor Arthur Vigeant announced the change in a communication shared by the City Council at its Nov. 17 meeting.
“As you may know, National Grid’s Basic Service rates are set to rise significantly on Nov. 1,
2014,” Vigeant said in the letter, which was also sent to residents. “The city’s program is designed to offset this rise in rates, stabilize rates for one year, and guarantee savings during the period from Nov. 1, 2014 to April 30, 2015.”
All basic service consumers are automatically enrolled in the city’s program and will start benefiting from the lower rate beginning on the day of the month in December that their individual meter is read. National Grid will continue to respond to emergencies, read meters and maintain the distribution and transmission lines, Vigeant stated.
A link on the City’s home page details how residents can opt out of the program, states the financial advantages of the change, and will include periodic updates throughout the terms of the program.
