Obit Pauline DolanShrewsbury – “Art is not what you see but what you make others see.” Pauline Dolan’s life was like a watercolor enjoyed by all who knew her.

Pauline J. (Kelley) Dolan died Friday morning, Nov. 28, 2014 at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester. She was 93.

Born Nov. 16, 1921, daughter of the late Frederick & Monica (Donoghue) Kelley, Pauline was raised and educated in Worcester. A graduate of North High School, she also attended Bridgewater State College.

She met her husband of 43 years, John B. Dolan, when they were both high school students in Worcester. After John’s death in 1986, Pauline was drawn to the arts, in particular, to painting watercolors. She studied and trained at the Worcester Art Museum and her works were later exhibited at the Fitchburg Art Museum and at St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury.

A longtime resident of Shrewsbury, Pauline leaves her six children, Patrick J. Dolan of Shrewsbury, Elizabeth “Betsy” Doud and her husband Joe of Falmouth, John B. Dolan Jr. of Ft. Meyers, Fla., Michael J. Dolan and his wife Monina of San Francisco, Calif., Pauline “Polly” Dolan of Tampa, Fla., and Thomas J. Dolan of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John and by a half-brother, Chester Healy.

Pauline passed along her love of reading and learning to both her children and grandchildren.

Family and friends will honor and remember Pauline’s life by gathering for calling hours Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5-8 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury center, and again Friday, Dec. 5, at 8:45 a.m., before leaving in procession to Saint Mary’s Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation for their love and support shown to Pauline during the last three years of her life at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester.
