Berlin – Thomas O. Thorburn, 74, of Berlin, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014 at MetroWest Medical Center, Framingham Union Hospital. He leaves his beloved wife of 36 years, Carol A. (Christensen) Thorburn of Berlin.

Tom was born in Newton, son of the late Edward and Leta (Swanson) Thorburn. He was raised in Wayland, where he attended local schools, and had resided in Berlin since 1978.

He was a self-employed electrician and spent many years as the electrical inspector for Berlin and Hudson until retiring in 2012. He was a member and retired chief of the Berlin Rescue Squad and also a retired firefighter for the Town of Berlin.

Besides spending time with his family, Tom’s passion was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He always looked forward to the many trips he took on his Harley with friends, especially when his wife Carol would ride along with him. He was a devoted husband and father, loving grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be missed by all.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his five children, Jean Burton and her husband Bruce of Medway, Jill O’Toole and her husband Michael of Marlborough, Warren Priest of Shapleigh, Maine, Barbara Priest of Berlin, and Linda Wheeler of Bolton. He is also survived by his brother, John Thorburn of Southborough, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may attend calling hours Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, followed by a service and celebration of Tom’s life at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
