Obit Elaine DeMaliaShrewsbury – Elaine D. (Stavros) DeMalia, of Shrewsbury, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 in Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester. She was 81. Her husband, Andrew, died Oct. 19, 2012 and she was preceded in death by her brother, James Stavros, and Betty M. Borseth.

Born Dec. 9, 1932 in Parshall, N.D., she was a daughter of the late Peter and Ida (Heuer) Stavros. Raised and educated in North Dakota, she enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. It was during her time in the military she met Andrew V. DeMalia, and on July 25, 1959 they married in Our Lady of Mount Carmel – St. Ann Church in Worcester. They had been Shrewsbury residents since 1959.

She and Andrew owned and operated A & E Typesetting Service Co. for many years. She had also worked as a secretary for St. Pierre Chain.

Elaine was a talent in the kitchen and is remembered as a fantastic cook. She and Andrew also travelled extensively.

She leaves her sisters, Marie Casey of Burlington, N.D. and Helen Stavros of Denver, Colo. She and Andrew were not blessed with children of their own, but the many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews they leave behind were treated like their own children.

Family and friends will honor and remember Elaine’s life by gathering for calling hours Friday, Dec. 12, from 8-9:30 a.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, before leaving in procession to Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester, where her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 12 p.m. in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Elaine’s name may be made to the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence (VNA Care Network), 10 Judith Rd., Worcester, MA 01602.
