Obit Muriel UppstromNorthborough – Muriel J. (Miller) Uppstrom passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at UMass Memorial – University Campus in Worcester, after a short illness. She was 82.

She leaves her devoted husband of 65 years, Russell E. Uppstrom; her loving daughter, Elaine Woyda and her husband Paul of Sudbury; two beloved grandchildren, Sophia Woyda of Sudbury and Dubai and William Woyda of Sudbury; her siblings, James and Yvonne Miller, Marsha and Francis Bisceglia, Barbara and Paul Adams, and Paul Miller; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews; in-laws, William and Betty Oliver and Arlene and William Uppstrom; and her dear friend, Jennine Holmes. She was predeceased by siblings Joseph Miller, Doris Miller, Jack Miller, and Shirl Miller.

Born and raised in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Phelps) Miller. Muriel graduated from North High School and earned her associates degree from Quinsigamond Community College. She lived in Northborough for 55-plus years.

Muriel dedicated over 30 years of her life working for the former State Mutual Life Assurance Co. in Worcester, retiring in 1992. She held the title of Senior Audio Visual Administrator.

Beyond her professional life, Muriel enjoyed tap-dancing and playing the harmonica. She was a member of the Northborough Senior Center. A passionate artist, she was also a member of the Northborough Art Guild.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Friday, Dec. 12, from 4-7 p.m., in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St., Northborough. Her funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m., in St. Rose of Lima Church, 244 West Main St., Northborough. Burial will be held privately in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
