Shrewsbury – Michael C. Simone, of Shrewsbury, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014 after an illness. He was 87.

Mike was born July 6, 1927 in Worcester, son of Italian immigrants Carlo and Josephine (DiTerlizzi) Simone. He married Frances L. Mazzamurro Sept. 26, 1953 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel – St. Ann’s Church in Worcester, and had been a lifelong Shrewsbury resident.

He worked in inventory control supporting the store room at Jamesbury Corporation in Worcester for over 33 years before retiring in 1992.

Mike’s life was simple: it revolved around his family, friends, and the care of his home. Twenty-three Villa Road was a gathering place for family and friends throughout the years. Holidays and celebrations were like most Italian traditions: rich in food, family and laughter.

His grandchildren were among the highlights of his life and he spent innumerable hours attending their school and sporting activities throughout the years. He enjoyed clamming with his family during summers on Cape Cod in Brewster.

His greatest pleasure came from working each day in his yard and gardens. His yard was meticulous and his gardens produced an abundance of tomatoes and other vegetables.

He was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury, the Greendale Men’s Club and a 25 year member of the Jamesbury Travel Group. Despite his New England roots Mike was a loyal New York Yankees fan.

Mike was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Alden Simone and Carmella DiVerdi.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Frances, he leaves behind his children, Carl M. Simone and his wife Donna, and Joanne M. Rooney and her husband Michael, all of Shrewsbury; and his grandchildren, Matthew and Erin Simone and Mackenzie and Spencer Rooney, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mike’s life by gathering for calling hours Friday, Jan. 2, from 4-7 p.m., at Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury Center, and again Saturday, Jan. 3, at 9 a.m., before leaving in procession to Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Tpke., where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
