Marlborough- NGP Management Corporation of North Reading is planning to build a new Dunkin’ Donuts at 525 Maple St. (Route 85), the former location of the Registry of Motor Vehicles. As such, the company is seeking a special permit to install two drive-through windows at the new site. The new building will replace the current Dunkin Donuts’ at 312 Maple St. That site has been frequently backed up with traffic due to early morning drive-through patrons.
The application was presented to the city council at its Jan. 5 meeting and was subsequently referred to the urban affairs committee and the planning board. Ward 1 City Councilor Joseph Delano, the Urban Affairs chair, set a public hearing date to be held during the Jan. 27 council meeting. At that time, Attorney Arthur Bergeron and representatives of NPG will make a formal request for the two drive-through windows at the meeting.
The new Dunkin’ Donuts will have a patio setting, increased seating, free Wifi and more parking, creating a more restaurant atmosphere where customers can linger, according to Bergeron.
If the City Council approves the special permit, NGP must apply for site plan approval before construction can begin.
