Northborough – The Northborough Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting Friday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The evening’s program will be “Wilder Bush: Combs and More,” presented by Norm Corbin.
Wilder Bush was an early entrepreneur in Northborough who had a significant impact on the growth of the town. He is primarily known as the first to bring comb manufacturing to Northborough in 1839 when he purchased 25 acres along Howard Brook where it intersects Whitney Street. As his comb business grew, he became a very wealthy man. In 1854, he was a member of a committee to organize the Northborough Bank. The following year, he was involved in bringing the Agricultural Railroad to town.
Norm Corbin’s interest in Wilder Bush began as a result of his residence over the last 30 years in the original home purchased by Wilder Bush in 1839. He and his wife are active members of the Historical Society.
The meeting will be held at the Historical Society building, 52 Main St. (corner of Main and School streets) in Northborough. There is no charge to attend, and all are welcome.
