Obit Rev. George O. LangeWestborough – Rev. George O. Lange, 81, former pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Westborough, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at the Knollwood Nursing Center in West Boylston.

Born in Gardner, he was the son of the late Oliver and Alice (McGee) Lange. He was raised and educated in Athol and was a 1950 graduate of Athol High School. Following graduation, he attended St. John’s Seminary, Brighton, then studied at North American College in Rome. He was ordained Dec. 15, 1957 by Bishop Martin J. O’Connor in Rome.

Fr. George’s assignments were at North American Martyrs Parish, Auburn; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Winchendon; St. George, Worcester; and St. Anthony’s, Webster. He served as CCD Coordinator, South County, and was the Bishop’s Liaison to Charismatic Renewal Groups. He served as pastor of St. Joseph Good Provider, Berlin; St. Charles Borromeo, Worcester; co-pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption, Milford; and pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Westborough, retiring in 2007.

Fr. George enjoyed fishing, reading, hiking, bird watching, and classical music.

He is survived by one sister, Madeleine A. Faenza of Franklin; two nephews, Paul Faenza and his wife Brigid of Mt. Holly, Vt. and Peter Faenza of Franklin; and two grandnieces, Alice and Mary Faenza. He was predeceased by a sister, Elaine Lange, and a brother-in-law, Louis Faenza.

A Rite of Welcome and Liturgy of the Word will be held Monday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough, followed by calling hours until 7 p.m. His funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Luke the Evangelist Church. Committal services will take place Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m., in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol.
