‘Can Your Fines’ at the Westborough Public Library

Westborough – The Westborough Public Library, 55 W. Main St., wants residents to “can” their overdue fines during the month of February. Starting Sunday, Feb. 1, library patrons with late fees can pay off their fines with a donation of nonperishable food items, grocery gift cards or cash to benefit the Westborough Food Pantry. This is the fourth annual “Can Your Fines” food drive. Last year’s project resulted in the donation of 1,585 pounds of food, and the library hopes to collect even more this year.

Food donations are gladly accepted anytime during the month. The Food Pantry is currently in need of food items like meals in a can (beef stew, corned beef hash, chili or Manwich), bottled or canned juice, evaporated milk, Jell-O, cookies, crackers, cake or brownie mixes, and bread mix, pancake mix or muffin mix. They also accept non-food items like paper towels, toilet tissue, deodorant, shampoo and shaving needs. A full list of needed items can be found at http://westboroughfoodpantry.org/listofneededitems.html.

Patrons should note that the “Can your Fines” program is only for fines. Charges for lost or damaged materials or other fees will not be forgiven. Donated items must be unopened, nonperishable and up-to-date on expiration. Keep up on the progress of donations by checking the library website (westboroughlib.org), Facebook or Twitter pages, or text the words Follow WestboroughLib to 40404. “Can Your Fines: will run through Saturday, Feb. 28.
