Shrewsbury – Town Moderator Daniel Morgado began the regularly scheduled if abbreviated meeting of the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen Feb. 24 by publicly thanking both town employees and regular citizens for their efforts in clearing the recent record snowfall.
According to Morgado, snow piles have been so deep that regular mail and trash pickup has been interrupted for the past month, with road sight lines blocked and driving made more difficult by the huge piles of snow at intersections. He then related that, in comparison, he had driven to Boston that morning on business and found Boston “frozen” and paralyzed, requiring him to search for a parking space for a good length of time. Board Vice-chair Moira Miller seconded Morgado’s thanks to the town.
In other business, Vijay Patel received unanimous approval from the board for a common victualler license for his Honey Dew Donuts store at 604 Hartford Turnpike. The store will open under his management in March and be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
