Obit Thomas HamiltonHudson – Thomas M. Hamilton, 75, a lifelong resident of Hudson and a longtime funeral director, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, surrounded by his loving family and friends, at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus in Worcester.

Tom was born and raised in Hudson, son of the late James and Doris (Brissette) Hamilton. He attended local schools and was a 1958 graduate of Hudson High School. He later received his degree in Mortuary Science from the New England Institute in Boston in 1959.

Tom served proudly in the United States Army, Military Police, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany during the Vietnam Era until being honorably discharged in 1965.

He began his long career as a funeral director with the P.E. Murray Funeral Home in West Roxbury. He later joined the J.S. Waterman and Sons Funeral Home in Boston. He also worked for the Hickey Funeral Home in Hudson. In 1972, he acquired the Tighe Funeral Home and was the present owner and funeral director.

He was a life member of the Hudson Elks, a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, and a member of the Massachusetts Funeral Directors Association, along with several other local community organizations. He served on the Hudson Cemetery Commission, the Hudson Finance Committee, and the Hudson Bi-Centennial Committee. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish in Hudson and was a former Hudson Call Firefighter.

Tom cherished his Hudson heritage which he loved. He was proud of his accomplishments as the owner and operator of Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. He truly valued his ability to financially support so many organizations and causes within the community. He will truly be missed by all, especially by his classmates and the members of the class reunion committee. His legacy will live on.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, William Hamilton and his wife Mary of Hudson, Keith Hamilton of Hudson, Shelley Lorrain and her husband Phil of Marlborough, and James Hamilton, Robert Hamilton, Richard Hamilton, and Nancy Hamilton, all of California. He is also survived by his great-nieces and great-nephews, his many loving friends, and colleagues.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 5, at 11 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 4, from 4-8 p.m., at the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
